Howard Webb discusses Yellow Cards & Discipline

We have seen it many time haven't we, a referee issues an early yellow card to grab control of a game but then when the same tackle is made again he does nothing about it, he is not being consistent and the aim of every referee is to be consistent over the 90 minutes.

Howard Webb tells us this but do we all not want consistency over the season, not consistence from one referee and then a different interpretation from another referee the following week, how does a payer know where they are?

Clubs don't help, asking their players to crowd a referee. The idea is that even if he doesn't change his mind subconsciously next time he'll err on your side and in the case of a Cahill dive that can then have a major positive impact.

It is probably the toughest job in football because the referee can never please everybody, the difficulty is seen by how many players go into refereeing after they have finished playing, to my knowledge, none. In cricket a player will become an umpire (the equivilent) and I have long though there should be a campaign to get former players to take up refereeing. Would they, being former players, see things in a different light than all these referees who have never played the game at a high level.
